The company was incorporated in Australia in 1979 as Coal of Africa Limited (CoAL). In November 2017, shareholder approval was given for a name change to MC Mining (MCM). The new name, which stands for “metallurgical coal,” better reflected the Company’s new strategic focus to become a cash-generative mid-tier coal producer.

The company’s assets, primarily located in South Africa’s Limpopo province, include the Makhado Project (hard coking and thermal coal), Vele Colliery (semi-soft and thermal coal) and the Greater Soutpansberg Projects – MbeuYashu (coking and thermal coal), as well as the Uitkomst Colliery (metallurgical and thermal coal) acquired, located in kwaZulu-Natal.

With good access to rail and port infrastructure, MCM can effectively service domestic and international markets; providing a much-needed resource for economic growth and development to the country and the provinces in which it operates.

MC Mining’s primary focus is developing its flagship Makhado Project. In August 2024, the Company secured a key investment from Kinetic Development Group to advance the project. FY2025 marked a significant milestone for the Group with the commencement of project to achieve first coal by the first quarter of 2026.

MC Mining is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). Its common shares are traded on the ASX under the ticker MCM and on the JSE under the ticker MCZ.
