Creating an inclusive workplace

Our culture and our people are fundamental to our success.

We are committed to building an inclusive, diverse and engaged workforce where every person in the organisation clearly understands values and is connected to our purpose.

We believe that an environment that enhances employee wellbeing will also enhance performance. We strive to improve the way our employees and stakeholders experience our business by maintaining an inclusive workplace in which:

  • Our people live our values in the day-to-day operations of the business
  • They are empowered to reach their full potential
  • Every person feels that his/her contribution to our business performance is recognised and valued
  • There is a shared commitment to growth and continual improvement
  • Advocate for each other
  • Diverse views and cultures are celebrated and valued.

Attracting and retaining talent

We’re continually reviewing our policies and procedures to harness the full potential of our employees, enabling them to thrive and to make a difference in their work environment. Our inclusive recruitment processes target local people in our areas of operation to ensure that we achieve a workforce reflective of the community and society where we operate.

We seek out graduates, with a focus on women, and place them on a development programme, under the mentorship of more experienced employees. Our leadership is trained to support diversity, and we have developed structures and policies that promote and prioritise inclusion and the protection of our employees. Our goal is to promote an environment in which both management and employees consistently advocate for one another, and remain accountable in their efforts.

Our performance management system reward our employees for exceptional performance, and aims to retain them through ongoing planning for career development and growth. Our training focuses on developing skills and competencies in leadership, sustainability and compliance.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

We make use of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) as a platform for employee engagement, facilitating a clear line of communication from ERGs to leadership to voice concerns and solve problems.

The benefits of our ERG programmes include:

  • connecting people in a social and professional way
  • encouraging interaction between employees and executive management
  • building camaraderie around shared identities and values
  • providing employees with the opportunity to problem-solve, innovate, and showcase leadership skills
  • providing insights for leadership on employee/community issues, needs and policy development
